BlackNETs Regional Workshop

On 3 - 4 November 2025, Mare Nostrum NGO organized a regional workshop titled “From Awareness to Action: A Regional Approach to Tackling Abandoned, Lost, or Discarded Fishing Gear (ALDFG)” at Hotel Bulevard in Constanța.
The workshop was held within the framework of the project funded by the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme: BlackNETs – Exorcising the BLACK Sea's Silent Killers.
The event brought together representatives and stakeholders from Georgia, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Romania to strengthen dialogue and regional cooperation. Representatives of Ilia State University participated in the workshop from Georgia.
Participants exchanged knowledge and experiences through regional case studies highlighting best practices for preventing and addressing Abandoned, Lost, or Otherwise Discarded Fishing Gear (ALDFG). The workshop also focused on identifying strategies tailored to the region and supporting their implementation.
On the second day of the workshop, an ALDFG Exhibition was organized, presenting materials and photographs prepared by each participating country. The exhibition showcased national experiences, research activities, and efforts aimed at addressing the issue of abandoned, lost, or otherwise discarded fishing gear in the Black Sea region.
