New Scientific Publication in Annals of Geophysics

News

A new research article, “Next-Generation Ground-Motion Models for Georgia and the Surrounding Caucasus Region,” has been published in the international scientific journal Annals of Geophysics.

The study introduces improved ground-motion models for Georgia and the surrounding Caucasus region, developed using 2,262 high-quality three-component accelerograms recorded by seismic networks in Georgia and neighboring countries.
The models account for earthquake magnitude, distance, faulting mechanism, and local site conditions.

The results demonstrate that the new models provide more stable and reliable estimates of ground motion.

The findings have important practical applications for seismic hazard assessment, earthquake impact modelling, and earthquake-resistant engineering in Georgia and the wider Caucasus region.
