United Internet Catalogue opac.iliauni.edu.ge

smallIlia State University successfully completed first stage of tests for integrated library system. One of the components of the system - a web catalogue opac.iliauni.edu.ge is technically impeccable and online accessible. This catalogue of new generation presents a complex system which enables customers to search needed information with the help of multiple principles. Search can be carried out based on different parameters: author, title, year of publishing, key words etc. Thanks to the subject sections book of particular interest can be found even in case the reader has no identified search objects.

With the help of "virtual shelves" customer can go through publications which are arranged thematically in accordance with international classification system. For the moment internet catalogue contains 4,000 entries on the most frequently requested books and the ones that are part of the study program. Thus, students have an opportunity to research information on availability of the books they need.

By the end of 2010 catalogue will contain full data on extensive major collection of the library of the Ilia State University: books, periodicals, audio and video materials, cartographic and musical prints. This means full replacement of "traditional" card catalogues with a web catalogue. It is planed to launch one more component of the system - book circulation module - in the nearest future. It will ensure establishment of a simple and convenient system of book circulation (reservation, order, return etc.).

In parallel the process of translation of integrated library system into Georgian language is underway. The project which is carried out at the library of the Ilia State University is the first successful attempt to implement in Georgia a library system which would be compatible with international web catalogues.
