Competitions

The Japan Center at Ilia State University is pleased to announce the essay competition on "The World Without Nuclear Weapons." This event is organized as part of the series of events dedicated to "The Atomic Bombings of Japan," with the support of the Nagasaki National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims.

The competition is open to Ilia State University students.

At the end of World War II, on August 6 and 9, 1945, the United States of America dropped two atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, instantly destroying both cities and killing more than 200,000 people, with many thousands suffering for the rest of their lives due to resulting injuries.

In 2022, the Russian-Ukrainian War started, leading to a renewed threat of nuclear weapons. The global community must unite against the use of atomic bombs and work towards creating a world without nuclear weapons.
