“Switzerland – Country of Many Languages and Cultures”
On November 25-26 Ilia Chavchavadze State University hosted a student conference: "Switzerland - Country of Many Languages and Cultures." It was organized with support of the Swiss Embassy and participation of students of the Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies (track Roman Studies), Ilia Chavchavadze State University.
At the launching ceremony girls' choir of the university performed national anthem of Switzerland in four official languages of the country: French, German, Italian and Romansh. After performance of Georgian and Swiss national anthems the audience was greeted by the Rector of the Ilia Chavchavadze State University Gigi Tevzadze and the Ambassador of Switzerland to Georgia Doctor Lorenzo Amberg.
Program of the first day included talks on the history, culture and arts of Switzerland. Students discussed the language and cultural peculiarities, Swiss cinema and theatre, literature created in four different languages etc.
The second day was dedicated to the Swiss French language literature and discussion of Swiss writers Blaise Sandrare, Agotha Christoff, Jean Pash, Jaques Marcanton, Jean-Claude Fontaine, Gaston Sherpiot, Edmond Henri Crissinel. Excerpts from famous works were read along with their Georgian translations. At the end of the conference the Ambassador invited all participants to the celebration of the Swiss National Day and asked the choir to perform Swiss and Georgian anthems during the festivities.
