Project ‘Debates for Better Education’ Summary Event
On July 14, Rector of Ilia State University Professor Nino Doborjginidze awarded best speakers and winners of the Georgian national debate tournament at the summary event of Debates for Better Education.
The Debates for Better Education project is organized by the Institute of Debate and Education of Georgia with the support of the Gudavadze-Patarkatsishvili Foundation. The main partner is Ilia State University.
Teams selected from 700 students of debate clubs of public schools in Tbilisi and regions took part in the national debate tournament. The tournament was held face-to-face for the first time this year after the pandemic.
Members of 60 debate clubs from different regions of Georgia are actively involved in the Debates for Better Education project. Debate clubs are actively working in Adjara, Samegrelo, Svaneti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Kvemo Kartli, Shida Kartli, Zemo Adjara, Kakheti, Racha, Imereti and Tbilisi.
Debate Clubs are successfully led by teachers at debates clubs. Their supervision, monitoring and coaching is reflected on the development and progress of teachers which facilitates students’ success reflected in the research conducted within the project.
The main goal ofthe project Debates for Better Education is to develop the skills of free and independent citizens in students and to promote the formation of such skills as: constructive discussion, reasoning, finding materials, orating, teamwork, time management, respecting opponents, etc.
