Professor Natela Imedadze’s Jubilee

1On Tuesday, June 2, Ilia Chavchavadze State University hosted a scientific session dedicated to the jubilee of Ms. Natela Imedadze, Full Professor of the Education Department. Ms. Natela turned 80. She has been engaged in fruitful scientific activities for almost 60 years. Since 2005 she has been Full Professor of the Education Faculty of Ilia Chavchavadze State University and a member of the Academic Board.

The session was opened by Professor Gigi Tevzadze. He talked about Ms. Natela Imedadze's scientific activities, her contribution to the development of the Georgian psychology. The jubilee was addressed by former students of Ms. Natela. They emphasized her greatest services performed in the study of psychology. 2

From the outset of her career, Ms. Natela Imedadze made researches into topical issues of psycholinguistics, like psychological logics of studying the second language, typology of bilingualism. The research outcomes were important not only in Georgia and the former Soviet Union, but they drew attention of linguists of the world. Natela Imedadze is the first linguist who made the cross-cultural analysis of children's speech, investigated logics of language acquisition by children making Georgian children an example. She studied universal and specific characteristics of language development.

"The first Georgian psycholinguist, who founded the psycholinguistic school in Georgia and introduced its name to the international community", this is how Professor Natela Imedadze and her contribution is known at the current phase of development of psychology.

Prof. Natela Imedadze is the author of three monographs and over 100 scientific works.
