


ISU Researchers Contribute Insights at EMBRACE Seminar on the Eastern Neighbourhood

The Regional Seminar on the Eastern Neighbourhood was held on October 15, 2024. The seminar was the part of the Horizon Europe Project "EMBRACE" ("EMBRACing changE: Overcoming obstacles and advancing democracy in the European Neighbourhood"). Organized by the Ukrainian European Studies Association (UESA), the event took place online and focused on several key thematic areas.
Researchers from Germany, Greece, Belgium, Ukraine, and Georgia convened to share their insights and findings on the factors and blockages hindering the success of EUDP in their regions. They explored the conditions that could facilitate overcoming these challenges and emphasized the need to tailor EUDP initiatives to the unique political and social contexts of each partner country to enhance their effectiveness.
Researchers from Iliauni, Prof. David Aprasidze and Giorgi Gvalia, took part in the seminar and presented their research findings within the relevant work packages, contributing to the discussions on advancing democracy in the European Neighbourhood.
The project is coordinated by Bergof Foundation Operations GMBH (Germany). It aims to study and analyze the blockages to democratization in the European neighborhood and identify ways to overcome them. The project has a comparative nature and it studies hybrid and authoritarian regimes in the Eastern and Southern parts of the EU neighborhood. ISU team, consisting of the professors of the faculty of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Giorgi Gvalia and Dr. David Aprasidze, is leading the study of empirical cases related to Georgia and Armenia, besides, it is involved in the process of development of theoretical framework and practical recommendations of the project.
