“Green University” Initiative
November 6, an official inauguration ceremony of the "Green University" initiative was held at the conference hall of the Ilia Chavchavadze State University. Representatives of the following high education institutions took part in it: Ilia Chavchavadze State University, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Tbilisi State Medical University, Georgian Technical University, American Humanitarian University, Free University, Georgian-American University, International Black Sea University, Caucasian University, Georgian Institute of Public Affairs, Goethe Institute.
Meeting which was hosted by the Rector of the Ilia Chavchavadze State University Prof. Gigi Tevzadze, was opened by the Head of Delegation of European Commission Mr. Per Eklund. At the end of the session, participants signed cooperation memorandums of the "Green University."
Ilia Chavchavadze State University is one of the first high education institutes in Georgia which is involved in waste product separation. Paper collected in the administrative and study buildings is transferred to the processing facility free of charge.
The "Green University" project was initiated by the Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN) and the Delegation of European Commission in Georgia. At this point it implies collection, transfer and processing of waste paper produced by high education institutions of Tbilisi.
