Former Premier Minister of Spain Jose Maria Aznar Awarded Honorary Doctorate at the Ilia Chavchavadze State University
Following a decision of the Academic Board of the Ilia Chavchavadze State University former Premier Minister of Spain Jose Maria Aznar and Vice-President of AREVA (world leading company in nuclear energy) Mrs. Ana Palacio were awarded Honorary Doctorates for extraordinary contribution to the modern European policy. Awarding ceremony took place at the premises of National Library on November 23. During the ceremony students of the Ilia Chavchavadze University met with the President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili.
The guests delivered a public lecture which was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall.
After reception the President addressed the students: "Today Georgia is hosting significant European politicians. Jose Maria Aznar set foundation to an absolutely new epoch of the European policy. Spain is the country which managed to free itself from the dictatorship. In 90ies Spanish students demonstrated to the whole world that Spain was one of the founders of European civilization."
