Cloisonné Enamel Made by the Juvenile Convicts at the Ilia State University
Saturday, January 30th, Ilia State University hosted an exhibition of cloisonné enamel made by the juvenile convicts from the Avchala Colony. Authors of the exhibits were awarded certificates commemorating successful completion of the professional study course. Two juvenile convicts Ivane Akhobadze and Giga Avsajanishvili who attended the exhibition, were given the certificates by the Minister of Correction, Probation and Legal Assistance Khatuna Kalmakhelidze. With support from the Norwegian NGO NORLAG the Center of Visual and Applied Arts, Ilia State University and Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture carry out a rehabilitation project at the Avchala Juvenile Colony. Namely, teachers from the Center of the Visual and Applied Arts David Zaganidze and Giorgi Kartvelishvili teach young convicts how to produce cloisonné enamel. The exhibition of works of 17 youngsters, which took place at the Ilia State University, was part of the project. 10 of participants were awarded certificates for the best work. It has to be mentioned, that last year thanks to similar project one of the convicts was granted an early release from the custody. He was given this opportunity for producing exhibits of the best cloisonné enamel and good behavior.
