Student Competition “Why is sleep so important for health?”

Ilia State University is joining the celebration of World Sleep Day, the slogan of which is “Sleep Is Essential for Health”.
A series of talks is scheduled in Auditorium G106 on March 17 at 13:00 to focus the attention of the public on the significance of sleep for our health, well-being and safety in both the short and long term.
At the same time, the student competition “Why is sleep so important for health anyway?”
The aim of the competition is to raise awareness about the relationship between sleep and health and to encourage the scientific work of the students. Those who wish to participate in the competition must prepare a scientific essay based on the latest scientific works and, in the case of being selected, hold a presentation on World Sleep Day.
Preferred topics:
- Sleep and metabolism
- Sleep and immunity
- Sleep and Covid pandemic
- Prevalence of sleep disorders (insomnia, or sleep apnea, or circadian rhythm disorders, etc.) and impact on health
- Sleep and memory
- Sleep and safety
- Adolescent sleep problems
- Harmful effect of TV / computer / smartphones on sleep
- Sleep and dementia
- Sleep hygiene
Competition conditions
All students of Ilia State University can participate in the competition.
A student should prepare an essay about sleep and health in Georgian or English (2-4 pp.) and send it no later than March 10 to the email address: tamar_khocholava@iliauni.edu.ge
Competition stages:
- Sending an essay;
- Verification of the academic integrity of the essay by the organizational group of the event;
- Assessment of the submitted works of the event and selection of some of the best ones by the organizational group. All essay authors selected in the second stage will be given a certificate of participation;
- Authors of the best essays will present their papers on World Sleep Day;
- 3 best essay authors will be selected and awarded (diplomas, souvenirs) on World Sleep Day.
