Seminar for students of Religious Studies: “A Declaration on the so-called ‘Russian World’ Teaching - issued by orthodox theologians”

A hybrid seminar on "A Declaration on the ‘Russian World’ Teaching - issued by orthodox theologians" will be held for students of Religious Studies at Ilia State University on April 11 at 16:00.

The Declaration, which raised a worldwide interest, was signed by Georgian theologians as well. At the seminar they will explain to students what is the significance of this text in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Cyril Hovorun, one of the drafters of the declaration, Ukrainian Orthodox theologian, professor at Sainkt Ignatios Orthodox Institute in Stockholm, will participate virtually.

The signatories of the Declaration, who will speak:

  • Gocha Barnovi, professor at the Saba University, Dean of faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Tamar Grdzelidze, associate professor of the Religious Studies program at Ilia State University
  • Leonide Ebralidze, priest of the Orthodox Church of Georgia, invited professor of Orthodox Theology at the Pontifical Lateran University (Rome, Italy)
  • Guram Lursmanashvili, Doctoral student; Director of Institute of Theology and Philosophy at the Saba University
  • Malkhaz Songhulashvili, Professor of Religious Studies, will comment on the significance of the declaration
  • Pavlo Smitsnyuk, a lecturer at the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, will participate in the webinar as a guest

Students of Religious Studies are encouraged to attend the auditorium.
