The President of Georgia establishes the Elisabeth Orbeliani Award for the best Georgian student translation by one of the founders and the first female lecturer at Tbilisi State University, benefactor, poet and translator, hostess of the Orbeliani Palace.

The competition aims to promote translation activity and encourage creative initiative among the young generation.

Elisabeth Orbeliani Award is granted in two nominations:

• For Georgian translation of a prose work
• For Georgian translation of a scientific paper.

Competition conditions:

• Students of universities of Georgia can participate in the competition;
• Georgian translation of the same work should not be published by another translator at the moment of submission of the contest work.
• To participate in the contest, students of Ilia State University must send their documents and contest paper via electronic application.

• The deadline for application submission is 18 February.

Stages of the competition:

• At the university that wishes to participate in the competition, a commission is set up by order of the Rector to review the papers of the students of the same university, to identify the best in each of the two nominations and to submit them to the Presidential Administration.
• A working group is set up in the Presidential Administration, which identifies one candidate per nominations from the translations received from universities and submits its decision to the President of Georgia for approval.
• In case of approval of the decision of the commission, the President of Georgia awards the nominated candidates.

Competition deadlines:

The competition shall be announced on 29 December 2021.

• Students can submit competitive translations, and documents to the University administration office from 7 to 18 February 2022.
• The competitive translations shall be submitted to the commission no later than 21 February 2022.
• A working group set up at the Presidential Administration shall determine the best translations and submit its decision to the President of Georgia on 14 April 2022.
