Discussion “Migration, anxiety and solidarity - Ukrainian and Russian migrants’ experiences in Georgia"

On May 31 at the Ilia State University in Tbilisi was held the discussion "Migration, anxiety and solidarity - Ukrainian and Russian migrants’ experiences in Georgia". The discussion was organized within the framework of the program "Connecting Theory and Practical Issues on Migration and Religious Diversity" (COREnet) of the European Cooperation of Sciences and Technologies (COST Action) in the book house "Ligamus" Migrants in Georgia".

The aim of the discussion is to analyze the new issues of Russian and Ukrainian migration in Georgia after the Russian-Ukrainian war from a political, cultural and gender perspective. The presentations were based on the results of ongoing research projects. The discussion related the questions: how the experience of war and migration is manifested in everyday life, how the migration caused anxiety or solidarity is represented in the urban spaces of Tbilisi and Yerevan.

  •  "Daily life of Russian migrants in Tbilisi" - Mariam Darchiashvili, anthropologist, assistant professor atIlia State University;
  •  "War experience of Ukrainian female migrants - trauma, affect and hope for survival" - Alice Bakradze, doctoral student of sociology, Ilia State University
