Call for the applications for the workshop "Experiencing Europe"
How do we define Europe and Europeanness? How do we experience multiple dimensions of Europe in our everyday life? Europe is not solely a geographic phenomenon but has its political, social, and cultural meaning, constructed and reconstructed through history and in diverse settings. We look at the picture in ‘the periphery’ - where the EU integration is predominantly an ongoing process and a moving target, and therefore the Europeanization is often adapted by the local constrains.
The LEAP Jean Monnet Network is organizing the one-and-a-half-day workshop for scholars, doctoral candidates as well as other experts - representing different fields of social sciences and humanities - to contribute to the topic of how Europe in general and the EU in particular are perceived and experienced in the everyday life of countries and societies at the periphery. The second part of the workshop includes a seminar by Professor Thomas Diez (University of Tübingen) on the impact „"Ambiguities of Europe: Reimaginations of Identity, Borders and Societal Orders"
The online workshop will take place via the Zoom platform on 29-30 March 2021. The workshop is organized by Ilia State University in Tbilisi, Georgia. The format of the workshop can be changed depending on the COVID 19 pandemic situation. In case the workshop takes place in offline regime, the organizers will cover lunch, coffee breaks and accommodation of workshop participants, however they will have to cover their own travel-related costs.
Please, send 250 words abstract in English to the following email: firstname.lastname@example.org until January 10, 2021. Decisions on submitted abstracts will be communicated by January 17, 2021. Successful candidates should submit their full papers until March 19, 2021.
Papers presented at the workshop will be compiled in a Special Issue in a high-impact academic journal. The issue will be focusing on the complexities and challenges of experiencing Europe and the EU in the various settings at ‘the periphery’. The participants will also receive a certificate of attendance.
Participation in the workshop is free.
