Aim of Programme:
The program aims to:
a) give students insights into the peculiarities, the purpose and function of research into history, art studies, theatre studies, cinema studies, literature studies and linguistics; b) get them familiarized with the past of the world civilizations, as well as the history of its development, the reasoning and manner of thinking of these civilizations conveyed in their creative and linguistic productions; c) equip students with an extensive knowledge of the history of Georgia, as well as the world, art, theatre, cinema, literature or the core aspects of different languages; d) develop their skills to analyze historic sources, literary works, fine artworks, theatrical performances, cinematic masterpieces, linguistic elements, such as texts and discourse, to interpret these elements and critically analyze them, as well as make comments on them or interpret and translate them; e) boost students’ intercultural awareness and prepare them to mediate between foreign and native cultures; f) teach students one of the classical or eastern languages at an intermediate level so that they can find and read original versions of historic, literary or other sources; g) teach students at an advanced level one of the European languages (English, German, Dutch, Spanish, French, Italian, Polish or Russian) and its structure; h) give them a profound knowledge of a particular country or the entire European society, its history, values, culture, literature, political, legal or economic system; i) introduce them to the ongoing cultural processes in Europe from the perspective of different disciplines, such as history, cultural sciences, art studies, literature studies and linguistics; j) in the case of focusing on a specific discipline, give them a relatively extensive knowledge in this particular discipline; k) prepare specialists equipped with theoretical as well as practical knowledge in the field of arts and cultural management to take management positions in culture related modern governmental and non-governmental, commercial and non-commercial organizations in the field of arts and cultural management; l) promote the formation of civil awareness, social unity, national, cultural and regional identity, as well as comprehension and respect of cultural and ideological diversity.
The archeology concentration aims to enable students to master archeology, its fundamental concepts, as well as understand their interrelations and the wide spectrum of their application; within it, they will also get familiarized with the theories, methods and technologies of modern archeological research with particular attention being paid to the application of modern methods and technologies. In addition, students will develop a general knowledge of historical sources, archeological monuments and their exploration. They will also be introduced to the formation processes of archeological culture, as well as history and archeology of different civilizations throughout the world.
