ISU Professor Jana Javakhishvili Elected President of the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies
Professor Jana (Darejan) Javakhishvili of Ilia State University has been elected as the new president of the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. ESTSS is an umbrella organization with local societies in Austria, Belgium, Croatia, England, Finland, Germany, Georgia, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland and Ukraine. ESTSS mission is to promote “the sharing of knowledge and experience about all aspects of psychotraumatology … by fostering research and best practice, building networks, and by contributing to public policy at a European level”. ESTSS biannual conferences are among the most influential international events in traumatic stress studies. The next conference will be held from 14 to 16 June, 2019 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Jana Javakhishvili will serve as ESTSS President-elect till the end 2018, while from 2019 she will become Acting President for two years. This is the first occasion when a Georgian psychologist assumes a leading role in European psychological community.
