The aim of the programme is to:

  • give students general understanding of musical art, whereas in the case of choosing one particular area     (electroacoustic and computer music, theory and practice of modern popular trends, ethnomusicology, the history of music, acoustic and electroacoustic compositions or the theory and practice of classical and Baroque music) assist them in gaining insights into the chosen areas;
  • equip students with general academic basic knowledge: familiarize them with the field, theoretical basics, principles and significant works of music, as well as musical arts in historic, sociologic, philosophic, esthetic and analytical context;
  • develop students’ creativity, as well as analytical reasoning and equip them with all necessary practical skills. 

In case of focusing on music, the graduates will gain:

  • a general understanding of music as inter- and multi-disciplinary, international, and multi-cultural phenomena;
  • vast and general knowledge of the history of world music ( from time immemorial to our day-to-day world);
  • ability to consider music in historical, sociological, philosophical, cultural and aesthetic context, as well as perceive its role in the society;
  • basic knowledge of fundamental theories of musical arts, principles and concepts;
  • basic knowledge of the theory of music, as well as general knowledge of musical forms, important musical styles and genres;
  • basic skills of reading and  playing musical sheet musical works of simple and/or medium difficulty;

In case of focusing on electroacoustic and computer music, the graduates will gain:

  • general knowledge of history, aesthetic and important works of electroacoustic music;
  • general knowledge of modern technologies of contemporary relevance in that particular field;
  • general knowledge of special computer programmes such as Audobe Audition, MAX-MSP-Jitter, ProTools and Cubase;
  • ability to record, keep and manipulate sounds;
  • ability to create sound compositions by electronic means.

In case of focusing on ethnomusicology, the graduates will gain:

  • general knowledge of musical skills possessed by man, as well as general types of musical creative reasoning in different cultural strata;
  • knowledge of historical and theoretical basics of Georgian folk music, ecclesiastic, urban and musical works;  
  • general knowledge of musical works of the Caucasus people, as well as ethnical minorities in Georgia and the ability to perceive them in relation to Georgian folk music;
  • general knowledge of world folk music and the ability to comprehend it in relation to Georgian folk music;
  • theoretical and practical knowledge of Georgian’s musical instruments;

In case of focusing on the history of music, the graduates will gain:

  • general knowledge of musical skills possessed by man, as well as general types of musical creative reasoning in different cultural strata;
  • general knowledge of professional world and Western European music;
  • general knowledge of modern popular music;
  • knowledge of history of Georgian professional music and its important works;
  • knowledge of musical works of different epochs, styles and genre.

In case of focusing on composition, the graduates will gain:

  • knowledge of key principles and methods of acoustical compositions;
  • basic knowledge of electroacoustic compositions;
  • modern professional musical trends and techniques;
  • general knowledge of musical and technical capacities of orchestral instruments;

In case of focusing on the theory and practice of modern popular musical trends, the graduates will gain:

  • knowledge of basics of jazz harmony;
  • knowledge of basics of jazz accompaniment;
  • general knowledge of key principles of performing techniques of different trends of modern popular music;
  • principles of ensemble performances;
  • skills in solfeggio;
  • different genres of modern popular music such as jazz, soul, rock, funk, etc.

In case of focusing on classical and Baroque music, the graduates will gain:

  • general understanding of fundamental characteristics of baroque, classical (in the broad and narrow sense) and modern professional music, as well as important styles, genres and forms of these epochs and music;
  • theoretical knowledge of classical (in the broad and narrow sense) and Baroque music and their performance styles;
  • skills to perform solo music as well as in musical ensembles;
  • basic skills to listen to and evaluate music;
  • necessary basic analytical skills for interpreting musical works.
